[Report] The MSI hosted, IT world’s annual MOA (Master Overclocking Arena) opened in Beijing, China on August 29, 2009 with burning enthusiasm! After an entire day of fierce competition, the Swedish overcame the world's competitors (wPrime 1024M: 139.791 secs; 3DMark Vantage: 18745 pts) to win the honor of being the MOA 2009 champions! MSI MOA2009 competition began in May of this year, and after 3 months of competitions and selections spanning 64 countries, 20 teams representing the best overclocking talent were chosen to compete in Beijing, the Olympic capital, for the Olympics of overclocking. The 20 teams at MOA 2009 represented 17 different countries, including Australia, Brazil, China, Chinese Taipei, Columbia, Slovakia, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Indonesia, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, Korea, Sweden, United States, and the Futuremark Lords of Overclocking Team. The event was planned as the biggest, most global overclocking event ever planned. At the end of the competition, the team from Sweden captured the crown, while the Poland team and Taiwan's Futuremark Lords of Overclocking came in second and third place, respectively. For the competition, the participants used the MSI Eclipse SLI platform and MSI N275 GTX Lightning graphics card, showing the true overclocking potential of these components. Additionally, of the 20 teams participating, 8 teams were able to break the 3DMark Vantage world record - performance they could all be proud of!
Showing the different attributes among the participants, MSI's MOA 2009 Final Overclocking Event's design helped attract everyone's attention. Last year the event featured designs which harkened back to the Roman Coliseum of old, but this year the event went one step further and brought out Olympic spirit by allowing the contestants to enter the Overclocker’s Olympic Area! The Olympic atmosphere reached a high when the contestants entered the arena directly from the adjoining stadium, bearing flags of their respective countries.
Aside from the MSI Eclipse mainboard and MSI N275 GTX Lightning graphics card, the platform used by MOA 2009 contestants included the Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 975 CPU, Antec CP-1000 power supply, WD RE3 hard drive, and OCZ Blade 2133 Triple Channel Memory. Many companies came out to support MOA 2009, and guests in attendance included MSI's Senior Vice President, Mr. Henry Lu; MSI's Assistant Manager of Global Motherboard Service, Mr. Scott Yang; MSI's China General Manager, Mr. Sam Lee; MSI's General Director of Marketing, Mr. Jason Lee; Intel's Taiwan Assistant Manager, Wesley Pan; Intel's China Market Manager of Channel and Retail, Mr. Carl Yang; NVIDIA's China Market General Director, Ms. Ming Wei; Western Digital's (WD) General Director of Sales, Ms. Sharon Liu; Antec's Market Manager, Mr. Stephen Bai, and many more, who came to help make this event truly spectacular.
MSI's Global Senior Vice President, Mr. Henry Lu expressed that "in the coming years, we will make the MOA event even bigger and more expansive." MSI's General Director of Global Marketing, Mr. Jason Lee also said, "in the future we won't exclude the leading games, peripherals, etc. from the scope of the event. It is our hope that MOA will not be an annual overclocker's event, but one that incorporates competitions and exchange for other related activities to make it the biggest and strongest event for gamers in the world!"
