Here are some of our frequently asked questions. For other questions or queries, please feel free to email us at sales@topgear-pc.com
What is overclocking? [-]
Overclocking, to us, is the process of making a PC run faster than a similarly rated part. E.g. A CPU running at 4Ghz when its default speed is 3Ghz. It could also mean running at tighter memory latencies, higher memory speeds or a higher graphics core/ memory speed.
Is overclocking dangerous? [-]
It is not at all for someone who is trained and experienced. For someone who does not know how to overclock properly, it could result in hardware failure, electrocution and more.
Will overclocking hurt my system? [-]
If a system is overclocked properly, it will not. This is why we stress the importance of choosing the right people to have your overclock done for you. Our experience ensures that there is a clear safety limit on how hot or how high a voltage we will set any system to run at. Running a system at the wrong voltage or temperatures can cause any part of the system to fail earlier than expected.
Will overclocking shorten the lifespan of my system? [-]
If the overclocking was done properly and safely, it will not. The practical lifespan of your parts will not be shortened significantly after overclocking and your parts should last as long as it should when it is not overclocked.
Could overclocking kill any of my components? [-]
Yes and no. Failure of our systems are usually due to faulty hardware or components used during the manufacturing process. Today’s over-engineered motherboards and graphics cards prevents this from happening. The chance that this could happen to you is less than 1%.
